Ladies Heel Heights Explained

This page gives examples of different styles of women's heels/shoes and the actual height they give (rather than advertised height). I measured these heel heights using a girl with UK shoe size 5 and 6 (US Size 7). If you have bigger feet then you would typically get a few mm more for each example.
The truth is, with women's heels, many don't give what you might imagine. Its all to do with the pivot point of your foot. If you measure yourself barefoot and then go on your tip-toes, you'll probably find you can get close to 3 inches of height. So to get 4 inches of actual height you need a high angle shoe and a platform at the front that is at least 1 inch.

Large Platform Heel: 10.8cm (4.25 inches)

The platform on this heel is a solid 1.5 inches.
Black Platform Heel: 9.9cm (3.9 inches)

The platform on this heel is a 1.25 inch style.
Wedge Platform Sandal: 8.8cm (3.47 inches)

The platform on this is around 1 and 3/8ths inch.
Black/Silver Smaller Platform Heel : 8.4cm (3.3 inches)

The platform on this heel is in 0.6-0.7 inch range.
Wine Suede Heel: 8cm (3.15 inches)

The platform on this heel is in 0.6 inch range.
Light Pink Smaller Platform Heel : 7.7cm (3.03 inches)

The platform on this heel is in 0.5-0.6 inch range.
Silver standard Heel: 7.35cm (2.9 inches)

The platform on this heel is a typical flat style around 0.3 inches.
Red Boot : 6.6cm (2.6 inches)

The platform on this heel is in 0.5-0.6 inch range.
Thigh Boot: 6.5cm (2.56 inches)

The platform on this boot is small, about 0.3 inch.
Average Ladies Heel: 6.2cm (2.44 inches)

A typically average type of heel.
Suede Wedge Boot: 6cm (2.36 inches)

The platform on this boot is around 0.5 inch.
Black Boot: 6cm (2.36 inches)

An average boot size with barely any thickness at the front/platform area.
Low-Medium Heel: 5.6cm (2.2 inches)

A heel that would be in the low-medium range.
Small Heel: 5.1cm (2 inches)

An average boot size with barely any thickness at the front/platform area.
Small Clarks Sandal: 4.8cm (1.9 inches)

A sandal that gives near enough 2 inches.
Small Clear Sandal: 4.6cm (1.8 inches)

Example of heel that gives just under 2 inches.
Thick Ladies Shoe: 4.3cm (1.7 inches)

An example of a shoe that gives nearly 1.75 inches in thickness.
Low Ladies Heel: 4cm (1.57 inches)

Example of heel size that would give just over 1.5 inches of height.
